(too old to reply)

Hi everyone.

Thank you to everyone that have provided me with excellent replies to
my two posts on Nissan Silvia S13 - speedometer and fuel issues. My
friend really appreciates the information provided.

This next question is something between me and my friend...

My friend and I are looking for experienced opinions on which car is
quicker down the quarter mile.

Nissan Skyline R33 GTST

or

Nissan Silvia S13 K SR20

Thanks.

Stock for stock? The Skyline, but that assumes drivers of equal skill.
When you start throwing mods into the mix, it gets complicated. IIRC
there are now three variants of the SR20 ("redtop", "blacktop" and "S15
blacktop"), the most recent having an extra 10 hp.

Interesting you say that. For the comparison, we will assume the
drivers have equal skill, or to take it futher, they are "clones".
When my friend and I first started having debates, the first point
that came up was stock for stock, and after heated discussion (because
we had nothing else to do), we both thought the Skyline.

As expected, throwing mods on to either cars throws a lot for
variables, and one has to ask the question... What are we really
comparing?

Some people say that the Silvia gives much better performance per
dollar than the Skyline. I think it depends on how much is spent and
knowing where the limits you can do to each car. Of course, there is
the motor, but there are other components such as suspension, balance,
and good take-off with little wheel-spin.

I'm not a real fan of comparing modified cars. I prefer to compare
cars that come out of the factory. Here in Australia, inbred cars and
hybrid cars are gaining momentum. People are putting Twin-turbo supra
motors in Series 4 RX7's. What are you really racing? Commonly, I've
seen S13 Silvia's with RB20 and RB25 motors in them. Oh yeah, those
cars are bloody hard to keep up with.

intertesting points.

What it boils down to (IMHO) is that anyone with enough money can make a
car fast enough. I know of at least one S13 chassis that has a Supra
2JZ (or whatever it's called, twin turbo last-generation Supra) engine
in it, which is supposedly putting down in excess of 900HP at the
wheels. That's pretty crazy. I've got footage of an 650HP CA18DET.
Time and patience, pretty much any car can beat any other, with the most
important ingredient: MONEY!

650BHP CA18DET. *impressed*

Any chance you can post the footage for me to download? I'd love to
see that! ;-)
